How do we work together?

Person-centred therapy with optional creative techniques

Person-centred therapy is a therapeutic approach that primarily uses talking to focus on the individual’s experiences and feelings. It emphasizes self-discovery and personal growth through a non-judgmental, empathetic relationship with the therapist, fostering an environment of safety and acceptance.

Creative techniques, such as sand tray therapy and art resources facilitate expression beyond words. They allow clients to explore emotions and experiences visually or creatively, enriching the therapeutic process and promoting deeper insights.

Although the creative resources are available, they are optional and entirely your choice whether to utilise them in your sessions to explore your experiences and feelings.

Read more about the creative techniques below. You can also contact me if you would like to find out more.

Sand Tray

The Sand Tray: A World of Your Own

Imagine a safe, contained space where you can build and explore your inner world without pressure or judgment. That is the essence of non-directive sand tray therapy. Using a collection of miniature figures and objects in a tray of sand, you are invited to create a scene that reflects your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. The beauty of this approach is that you don’t need to find the right words to describe what you're going through.

Benefits of working with the sand tray

  • Non-verbal expression: Share what words can’t capture.

  • Uncover hidden emotions: Symbolic scenes bring unconscious feelings to light.

  • Safe boundaries: The tray provides distance from overwhelming emotions.

  • Empowerment: Rearranging and resolving scenes fosters healing and new perspectives.

Art Materials

Exploring Your Inner World with Art Materials

Using art materials in a non-directive way offers a different pathway to self-discovery and expression. In this approach, there is no expectation of artistic skill or a finished product. You are simply given the freedom to use paints, clay, pastels, or other materials to explore your emotions and experiences. I will not "interpret" what you create, the focus is on the process of creation, not the result.

Benefits of working with art materials

  • A gentle alternative to talk therapy: Express feelings without the pressure to put them into words.

  • Curiosity and self‑awareness: Image‑making encourages reflection and deeper understanding of yourself.

  • Emotional release: Textures and colours help externalise and process suppressed emotions.

  • Fresh perspectives: Creating art offers new ways to view and make meaning of your experiences.
